Description This merchandising development position requires experience in POP/POS display manufacturing processes and an understanding of design engineering for the retailing of prestige cosmetics. It entails supporting the development process for the production and updating mainly Open Sell systems (ULTA, Sephora, Shoppers Drug Mart, etc) and some Visual Merchandising elements - it requires close communications with NA Project Management, Indirect Procurement and the brands assigned. The position is an operational one and it requires a good understand of Open Sell from a technical perspective and also the application/usage of each system requirements per retailer type (e.g. Department Stores, Specialty Multi, Perfumeries). It necessitates a close relationship with Store Planning team to assure a seamless integration of the operating systems into the retailers' fixtures/gondolas and brands 'custom millwork. It also requires knowledge of main industry suppliers, their manufacturing competences and their geographic production capabilities - new suppliers that fit the profile will be considered. At times--depending upon department workload, position may also work on counter-top (Visual Merchandising) displays as well. DAILY TASKS: The incumbent will participate in or lead project review meetings with Brands, Project Management and Design Teams. He/she will assist with presentation of overall design ideas, and provide technical support to the Brands as needed. The incumbent will be responsible for the engineering review of Open Sell system overhauls and updates to ensure the systems are cost effective and easy to install for our retail partners. The incumbent will ensure optimum materials are specified and utilized in order to maximize savings without losing function and quality. The incumbent will conduct initial technical analysis and evaluation of design versus technical options available for material and manufacturing processes, involving innovative ideas, concepts and new technologies to achieve brand design The incumbent will contribute with creative solutions by understanding the product, brand, strategy of the brands, and the environment which it will be displayed, within budget limitations. The incumbent will direct the supplier to produce prototypes. Ensures that Design Intent of prototype matches as best possible the original Design Concept. The incumbent will provide clear direction and technical recommendations and choices based on cost target, regulatory requirements, environmental legislation, consumer safety and quality/aesthetic needs Under the direction of the RDDC, NA Group Director of Development, approve or amend (vendor-submitted) engineering drawings, prototypes, pre-production samples, pack-outs, decoration and final ("first") production. Manage the delivery date of the first-off in time to meet the ultimate launch dates. The incumbent assists in development of instruction sheets. The incumbent will review all testing protocols and test results to ensure the durability and quality of the unit for the duration of its in-store lifespan. The incumbent will assist NA Project Managers and NA Indirect Procurement Team with outsourcing supplier selection to ensure quality, price, and delivery are being maintained. The incumbent will aid the director on new innovation research: materials and finishes, manufacturing processes and technology. TIME MANAGEMENT: 60% specific project work 20% meetings with supplier and brands for project status update 10% supplier meetings/visits, trade shows, retailer visits and cross-functional meetings 10% administrative work Qualifications BS/BA Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5 years in Product Design of consumer or commercial products. Preferably in POP/POS Displays. Minimum 5 years of Project Management overseeing the entire production cycle. This position requires mechanical aptitude, the ability to convey concepts with quick sketches and creative 3D problem solving skills. Good verbal, written and presentation skills. Highly developed sense of aesthetics as well as engineering ability, and an advanced understanding of how things work. The ability to drive projects to completion in a fast paced, deadline driven environment is a requirement. This position will work both independently and as part of a team and requires a helpful and cooperative attitude, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Possess the ability to multi-task, think outside of the box and establish priorities yet be flexible in an ever-changing environment.
